About Hiscox - Build on momentum with an aspiring team
As an international specialist insurer, we are far removed from the world of mass market insurance products. Instead we are selective and focus on our key areas of expertise and strength - all of which is underpinned by a culture that encourages us to challenge convention and always look for a better way of doing things.
We insure the unique and the interesting. And we search for the same when it comes to talented people. Hiscox is full of smart, reliable human beings that look out for customers and each other. We believe in doing the right thing, making good and rebuilding when things go wrong. Everyone is encouraged to think creatively, challenge the status quo and look for solutions.
Scratch beneath the surface and you will find a business that is solid, but slightly contrary. We like to do things differently and constantly seek to evolve. We might have been around for a long time (our roots go back to 1901), but we are young in many ways, ambitious and going places.
Some people might say insurance is dull, but life at Hiscox is anything but. If that sounds good to you, get in touch.

The Role
Hiscox’s Direct and Partnerships Division is carving a strong reputation in the US for being the insurer that is a driving a change in the landscape for small business insurance. Small businesses with under 10 employees represent 99% of and are the backbone of the US economy – but in the small business insurance space they are an underserved market.
In 2010, Hiscox recognised this and launched a digital platform focused on providing a best-in-class digital experience to these small businesses for general liability, professional liability and business owners policy products. We were the first insurance company in the USA to do this for these small businesses, providing online quote and buy backed up by a service center in Chesapeake, VA.
Since this launch in 2010, we’ve expanded our product footprint, our geographic footprint (all states excluding AK) and how we distribute our products to customers (now not just through our direct marketing but through partnerships with brands like Progressive, GEICO, Farmers and Nationwide).
Today, this business has built a portfolio of 225,000+ small business customers – and the exciting thing for us is that we are the fastest growing part of the global Hiscox business.
What you will be doing:
As a Business Analyst, you will work as an integral part of the Direct & Partnerships Division (DPD).
In our business, we value learning agility, in addition to trying to build well rounded future leaders. This specific graduate placement will differ from any we’ve done previously at Hiscox USA by providing the opportunity for a graduate with excellent learning agility to cycle through more than one business area, as well as completing projects critical to the success of DPD overall.
This role will spend 9 months each in 2 different areas of the DPD business, and within that total 18 months will also be expected to take on two projects that deliver material benefit to the business as well as being a learning opportunity for the individual. The areas that could be in-scope for these 9-month stints and the 2 projects are marketing, underwriting, claims, technology, operations/service delivery, compliance/regulation or partnerships distribution.
To succeed you will need:
- Possess strong oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrate a commitment to quality, service and problem management.
- Be organized yet comfortable in a rapidly changing, dynamic environment
- Demonstrate a high energy, “roll-up your sleeves” attitude
