The opportunity
We are offering a 10 week summer placement working within the Catastrophe Modelling Team of the Hiscox Reinsurance Division. The intern will learn about and analyse a range of natural perils which drive losses to the reinsurance industry. In particular, there will be the chance to learn how to use the very latest European windstorm and US hurricane catastrophe models that are due for release in the summer of 2018. With these skills, the intern will help us analyse the risk we are exposed to from these perils, developing an understanding of how the models work and the assumptions on which they are built.
In addition to learning about ‘natural’ catastrophes, there will be the chance to assist with pioneering development in other growing areas of our business: terrorism, cyber risk and liability reinsurance. The successful candidate will also be able to build an understanding of reinsurance structures, pricing and market trends. Working in conjunction with teams across Bermuda, London and Paris, the internship is a great way to get real insight into the workings of high performing global reinsurance business.
