Hiscox: Summer internship - Hiscox Catastrophe Research, London
Hiscox Catastrophe Research – Summer Internship, London
About the team
The Hiscox group function plays a number of critical roles in the business including enterprise wide capital management and optimization, outward reinsurance purchasing, strategy and research. The research function reports into the Head of Underwriting Risk and Reinsurance for the group. The summer internships on offer are working within the group’s catastrophe research team. The primary aim of the group research team is to develop insights to improve and update the Hiscox View of Risk (HVOR) which is applied across the various cat exposed business units for pricing and aggregating natural catastrophe risk. Cat exposed business units include Hiscox Re & ILS, London Markets and Hiscox Retail (USA and UK / EU). The research team presents on a regular basis to the group’s natural catastrophe exposure management group comprised of the group’s chief underwriting officers and other senior management, where changes to the HVOR are proposed and ultimately signed off. Improvements to the HVOR are expected to lead to market outperformance over the long run and is therefore highly valued by the business. The internships within the group catastrophe research team are suitable for candidates with a strong interest in combining technical / scientific thinking in the context of a global re/insurance leader.
